I love ALL things learning and science especially anything biology and outdoors! So when my toddler started to show a genuine interest in bugs, I jumped on the opportunity to share and grow his interest. It was really fun “hunting” around our yard looking for different bugs. Then my toddler was GLUED to his bug catcher watching the bug. I decided to add a nicer bug explorer kit and a bug-o-pedia book to his Christmas list. Unfortunately, I felt that we may have tortured/killed (:/) too many bugs last summer so I love the idea of also adding pretend play. This way he can explore inside and outside, play hide-and-seek to pretend catching, tactile touch to learn, and learn a larger variety of bugs.
This activity is SOOOOOO simple, harvests a lot of open-ended play, and only costs $32 total (although I am sure you can find a cheaper bug kit or pretend bugs)! Here is the list of items and go have fun exploring 😊
- The Big Bug Kit – $20
- Toob Insects (from Micheals Store, this is the same brand/kind of figurines that I used for my dinosaur fossil activity) – $12
